Established in 1986 Shared Earth has led the Fair Trade industry for over two decades, focusing on delivering products that consumers want by managing the design and development in-house. Sales are buoyant across all of its retail outlets, showing significant opportunity and demand UK wide.
About Us
The franchise, which is fully supported by Jeremy and his team of experts within the fair trade industry, offers the right person a fabulous opportunity to build an ethical profitable business. “We have always aimed to address the imbalance of wealth, working together with people from different cultures while earning a decent living, and because we make good profits, we are able to offer our suppliers in the third world a good and fair price for their products,” adds Jeremy.
Shared Earth currently operates template franchises in Cardiff, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and Liverpool as well as its head office and foundation retail outlet in York, in an ideal location next to York Minster. The head office premises is where all the magic happens with a wide range of product samples, materials, colours and designs continually being reviewed against current consumer trends. The retail shops themselves are packed with a vibrant atmosphere and the large colourful graphics of the artisans at work keep customers focused on the ‘feel good factor’ that the money they are spending is helping to make the world a better place.
Training and Support
Jeremy and his team have recently returned from a two week trip to India where he took 12 staff to visit producer workshops, select new products and review the Fair Trade projects helping to improve the lives of many people.
New franchisees will spend time at Shared Earth's York head office as part of their training. Full launch support is provided along with the operations manual, marketing and PR assistance.
"We are looking for individuals with the right qualities who want to own an ethical, profitable business. We are only looking for a small number of franchisees initially so that they receive an excellent level of care,” says Jeremy.
Financial Information
Most non-branded Fair Trade shops turn over around £75,000 but Shared Earth Fair Trade shops generate around £300,000 due to the unique business model that has been developed by its founder Jeremy Piercy.
Jeremy is well known in the industry for helping talented artisans create sustainable businesses to support entire communities in the developing world. With over two decades of experience, Shared Earth has the foundation to make your franchise hugely successful.
While most recent Fair Trade growth has been focused on food, largely due to the supermarket chains, non-food products have yet to reach their full potential. Jeremy feels strongly that now is the time to capitalise on the opportunities to provide an array of fairly traded non-food products to customers who are hungry for ethical products.
By opening a Shared Earth Franchise, and by selling Fair Trade products, you will be providing employment for a substantial number of disadvantaged artisans and their families abroad. But this should not stop you from making a decent living for yourself!
Are you for us?
You do not have to have expereince with Fair Trade, as you will gain expereince of this industry first hand on your visit to a developing country like India. You should however be interested in the environment and Fair Trade issues as you will be required to inform your customers about the issues of Fair Trade, sustainability and the protection of the environment.
You will acquire detailed knowledge of the products we sell and the producers we buy from during your training with us.
You will also have the opportunity to appoint your own team of staff to meet the retail demands from your shop. This will include recruiting, motivating and rewarding your team
