About The Franchise

Thorntons was established by Joseph William Thornton in 1911 when he opened a sweet shop with his son in Sheffield. Since then Thorntons has become a widely recognised brand with a reputation of superb quality, innovation, excellent customer service and the finest chocolate recipes from around the world. Everyone knows and loves Thorntons chocolate!

Thorntons currently operate around 360 company owned stores and 215 franchises throughout the UK.

The Recipe - How does the Thorntons franchise work?

A Franchisees can either be an individual who wants to be a retailer or who is already a retailer. Our franchise operate in conjunction with a second offer; which is usually a card and gift shop, or any other complimentary retail offer.

Choosing to go into retail can be a daunting decision for people, due to having to compete with big high street brands. With a Thorntons franchise this need not be a problem, as franchisees are able to stay independent but have a well recognised brand working with them.

It may be that our franchisees are already retailers and have decided to diversify their product range. Choosing a Thorntons franchise increases foot fall in your business and therefore turnover. With usually an increase on their established turnover.

The Recipe - Benefits of becoming a Thorntons franchisee

Being part of the Thorntons team doesn’t just mean you get the benefits of operating under such a widely recognised brand. Right from the start and set-up of the store through to marketing support the franchise team are always on hand supporting the franchisee.

Each franchisee has their own Franchise Business Manager, who are field based, helping with the set-up of the store and then the ongoing operations such as budgeting, product management and merchandising to name but a few.
